Kansas Senate District 21 Campaign Update- New Year’s Resolutions

Hello everybody, this is Tom Bickimer, your Republican candidate for the Kansas State Senate district that includes all of Lenexa and northwest Overland Park.

So it’s a new year- have you made any resolutions for 2020?  If so, I wish you the dedication and “want to” as Roy Williams is fond of saying to accomplish your goals for this year.

It’s a new year and a new legislative session in Topeka.  I wonder what resolutions our legislators have for this session.

There are important issues before them.  Medicaid expansion is prominent, so is a proposed constitutional amendment clarifying the state government’s authority to legislate abortion.  Tax relief, mental health funding, gun safety, criminal justice reform, health care, foster care, legalized online betting, internet sales tax collections, medicinal marijuana- the list goes on and on, and all to be considered with an eye towards a balanced budget, and let’s be candid, an eye towards the elections later this year.    Every house and Senate seat is up for election this year.  How much will that influence a legislator’s vote?  How much will that affect what gets done this session?

Perhaps the resolution our legislators should carry to Topeka is one where they vow not to give into political expediency, but rather perform as the public servants they were elected to be.

May their “want to” be strong.  Like you, I’ll be watching.
