Independence Day Transcript

        Our nation has a birthday coming up.  Yep, time to celebrate Independence Day.

        You don’t hear the expression “Independence Day” as much as you used to.  it’s the “Fourth” for most folks, almost like we’re celebrating a day off rather than the event for which the day commemorates.

        During these unsettled times, it’s easy to forget that we are all part of a great country.  An imperfect country, true, but the measure of its greatness is exemplified by the willingness of its people through good times and bad to embrace the Declaration of Independence as a work in progress.

        A Declaration that defiantly states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

        No other country on Earth was birthed by such stirring words.  We are blessed.  We are the fortunate ones.  Happy Independence Day, everyone.
